Purpose
Human experiences remind us of the need for mutual assistance and collaboration for meaningful survival and successful coping with the challenges encountered individually. Likewise, we the Oromo members of the Washington DC Metro Area community, as a result of being subjected to urgent needs of support at times of end of life and death occurrences, have decided to form a point of collaboration, “Hafooshaa” in Oromo. Members of the Oromo community contribute to a unique support system that assists families through the grieving process when a loved one dies. Commemorating the deceased, assisting the family through the grieving process, and long community gatherings at the home of the deceased are important facets of Oromo tradition. As such, the purpose of MOMAA is to preserve and promote these Oromo raditions by organizing community support for members who have suffered a loss.
Mission
To preserve the Oromo tradition in our newly adopted country of the United States of America by providing financial and emotional support for the families of the Oromo Americans who reside in the DC Metropolitan area at times of end of life and death occurrences.
Vision
To provide a community support system to families of the Oromo Americans that live in the Washington DC Metro Area in their times of need following a death.
